Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “MADE IN FINLAND”. The top of the barrel is marked “SAKO / CAL. .22-250”. The left side of the receiver is marked “L579 NO. 325256”, along with two proof marks.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded brass beaded blade, dovetailed to a serrated ramp, screwed to the barrel. There is no rear sight. The receiver is mounted with a Leupold 10x scope with a duplex reticle. The glass in the scope is clear. The scope shows light wear, with a few scratches and dings in the scope’s finish. Overall, the scope rates in Very Good condition. The scope is mounted on a two-piece Leupold-style base, and sits in 1” rings.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered mannlicher walnut stock, with a semi-pistol grip, fluted monte carlo comb with cheekpiece, plastic buttplate, and a banded forend that goes all the way to the muzzle with a metal cap. The LOP measures 13 1/2″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock shows light wear, with a few scattered light scratches and dings throughout. The checkering remains sharp and well defined. The finish on the stock is strong throughout as well. The stock fits the barreled action tightly, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some light fouling in the grooves. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light wear, with some finish thinning at the muzzle, and some scuffs on the front sight. Otherwise, the bluing is deep and dark throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are tooled but retain strong and serviceable slots. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. The trigger has a crisp and clean break. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Sako L579 Mannlicher in .22-250 Remington is a classic Scandinavian varmint/field rifle — compact, well-balanced, and built around a rigid action and Mannlicher-styled barrel-to-foreend stock for a tidy, low-profile carry. Chambered in the high-velocity .22-250, this example is very well suited to coyote and varmint work, long-range precision, or any hunting role where flat trajectories and rapid follow-up shots are desired.
This rifle presents strongly. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, and the metal retains about 98% of its original blued finish with only light wear — minor thinning at the muzzle and a few scuffs on the front sight. The one-piece Mannlicher walnut stock is attractive and tight to the action, with sharp checkering and only light handling marks; overall the wood rates in Fine condition. Mechanically the action and safety functioned correctly during inspection and the trigger breaks crisp and clean. The mounted Leupold 10× scope is an appropriate choice for this cartridge and rates Very Good with only light finish wear. This rifle would make a wonderful addition to an already existing European/Scandinavian sporting arms collection. It would also make a great addition for the hunter looking for a timeless bolt action rifle, chambered in one of the fastest cartridges ever produced.
