Serial Number: ZHCH6739. The new serial number was added by the importer. The original Russian serial number begins with Russian characters.

Markings: The import mark on the barrel reads “C.A.I. ST. ALB. VT. /  M91/30 RUSSIA 7.62X54R”. The top of the barrel shank is marked with the “Soviet crest / 1943r”, with the original serial number (“ZHCH” was stamped above by the importer), “arrow in a triangle” (Izhevsk Arsenal symbol) and with various small Soviet proofs & stampings. The left side of the barrel shank is marked with a “struck out number”. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number which was added by the importer. The bolt handle and bottom of the magazine are marked with the original serial number. The top of the butt plate is marked with “crossed out numbers”. It is also marked with the last 4 digits of the serial number; stamped over other numbers. The bolt body, barrel bands and magazine are marked with small stampings that include the Izhevsk Arsenal symbol. The bolt assembly is marked with a few small stampings including a small Tula Arsenal “star” on the locking lug. The bottom of the grip is marked “X”.
The left side of the scope mount is marked with the last 4 digits of the original serial number and with the scope’s serial number; both in electric pencil. The top of the Russian scope is marked “hammer & sickle / No-6486 / 1940”.

Barrel Length: Approximately 29 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is hooded post. The rear sight is a “U” notched sliding sight escalator marked from “1-20”.
The rifle comes with a Russian two piece side mounted scope base & PU scope. These were in long term storage and still have cosmoline and paper covering some areas. Part of the base is secured to the side of the receiver with 2 screws and 2 pins. 2 capture screws are also installed to keep the main screws in place. These screws are intact. 2 vertical rear screws and an oversized screw secure the detachable mount in place. The mount shows small scrapes & handling marks. Two  scope rings are attached to the mount. 3 top screws tighten the rings to the scope. The scope rings show light scratches and a spot of thinning. The fixed 3.5 power scope uses a heavy post reticle. The glass appears clear and the adjustment knobs turn. The top knob is marked “0 1 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13” and the side knob is marked “10 5 + 0 – 5 10”. The top of the scope tube shows a small scraped & dented area that has had its finish touched up. The scope tube shows scrapes & small scratches. The markings have lost some of their white paint filling. Overall the scope assembly is in about Very Good Plus condition.
The scope assembly comes with a protective cloth cover and scope caps. These are in about Fine condition.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece wood stock has a straight grip, finger grooves, metal nose caps, cut out for the included cleaning rod, two barrel bands, two sling eyelets, through bolt, cut out for the scope base and a metal buttplate. The refinished buttplate has scratches and an area of surface erosion showing through the finish. The wood shows several scrapes & scratches. Many have damaged or removed small portions of the finish and/or wood. The LOP measures 13 3/8 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt plate. The stock rates in about Very Good Plus overall condition.

Finish Originality: Refinished

Bore Condition: The lands are bright and the grooves are semi bright. The rifling is deep. There is fouling in the grooves which should clean up some. There is no visible erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish as refinished. Scratches and tool marks show through the new finish. The metal shows scrapes, small scratches and areas of discoloration.  The screw heads show heavy use. Many of the markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition as refinished.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
