The rear sight is an adjustable square-notch leaf in a base pinned to a channel in the top strap. The rear sight leaf has an outline, but it is not filled with any sort of paint. The barrel rib is notched for the included Ruger rings.

Stock Configuration and Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth gray laminate wood panels, each with inset Ruger phoenix logo medallions at the top. The panels are free of any notable wear or damage. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Satin Stainless

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion, but a very minor amount of stubborn fouling is dotted throughout.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 98% of its metal finish. The balance is almost entirely in light operational wear. There is some stubborn fouling from previous use, but apart from operational wear there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in Fine-Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder locks with minor play on each chamber. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork, and Accessories: This revolver includes a serial-matching gray plastic Ruger snap-case and the two Ruger rings mentioned above.

Our Assessment: Ruger introduced the Blackhawk in 1955 with the ‘Flat Top’ and ‘Pre-Warning’ versions, paving the way to an inevitable evolution in the design; the New Model revolvers were designed with a Transfer Bar Safety, a measure taken to compensate for that pesky tendency for human beings to err. This example is from 2003 and is notable for being ready for handgun hunting. The included Ruger rings make short work of equipping the gun with an optic (which is, sadly, not included). The bore is bright and with a 7 1/2″ barrel, you add a little bit of energy and direction to the .44 Remington Magnum cartridge. Good luck and happy bidding!
