Our Assessment: In 1977, Bill Ruger, co-founder of Sturm, Ruger, and Company, filled a hole in the American shotgun market — providing an affordable, American made over/under to the U.S. For more than thirty years, this popular shotgun equipped both hunters and competitive shooters alike. It remains a favorite in both field and collectors’ safes.
It embodies Ruger’s practicality over aesthetic ethos, delivering an very reliable weapon with a durable, stainless steel receiver.
This particular Red Label weighs in at only 7.1 pounds and is choked IC/MOD, making it a good choice for upland quail, grouse, or pheasant hunting. The first-shot barrel selection allows the quick-thinking shooter to adjust for range.
