Caliber: .270 Weatherby Mag.

Action Type: Single-Shot, Falling-Block

Barrel Length: 26″

Markings: The left side of the barrel is stamped “270 WEATHERBY MAG.” The top of the barrel is stamped with the standard Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc. warning and address marking. The left side of the receiver carries the Ruger eagle/ SR rollmark. Serial number 132-82462 is stamped on the left side of the action. No additional cartouches or import marks noted.

Sights / Optics: No iron sights. There is a short section of integral rail forward of the chamber for mounting an optic or scope base.

Stock / Forend: Straight walnut stock and forearm with factory checkering. Checkering remains crisp and well defined. The buttpad is a supple rubber pad.

Finish: Blue finish shows honest handling wear, including scattered surface nicks and light oxidation on the trigger guard and around the falling block locking surfaces. Finish thinning at high-contact points; overall, an older, honest finish consistent with use and storage.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright, and the rifling is sharp. There is light fouling near the center of the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition:  90% plus finish retention. A serviceable example with sharp stock checkering and a strong bore. The metal shows scattered handling marks, light surface oxidation on the trigger guard and parts of the block assembly, and some finish wear but no obvious major alterations. The locking surfaces show use but retain serviceable geometry. The rifle presents well for a used Ruger Number-One and would clean and polish up nicely.

Mechanics: The falling-block action closes and locks solidly; the lever and block move with a bit of stiffness typical of a rifle that has been stored — a careful cleaning and light lubrication are recommended. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Accessories: Original Ruger shipping box present. No scope, bases, or other accessories pictured.

Our Assessment: This Ruger Number-One in .270 Weatherby Mag. is a tidy, honest single-shot hunting rifle that pairs Ruger’s robust falling-block action with a cartridge built for long-range performance. The walnut stock displays an attractive figure, and the checkering remains sharp; the metal finish is used but intact, and the bore is excellent for the type, making this an immediately desirable piece for a shooter who wants a hard-hitting .270 Weatherby in a simple, dependable package.

For collectors and shooters alike, this rifle is a good value — attractive wood, strong rifling, and the desirability of Weatherby magnum performance in a compact single-shot platform. With a careful cleaning and light attention to free up the lever, it will serve well in the field or as a handsome addition to a Ruger-centric collection. We are no longer offering layaway.  KF
