Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 75% of its metal finish. There is freckling and oxidation spotting on the receiver flats, tangs, quarter-rib, and small parts from poor storage, with edge-wear at typical contact points. Screw heads show serviceable slots. All markings remain legible.
Mechanics: The falling-block action, extractor, and sight adjustments operate properly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment:
Ruger’s No. 1 is Bill Ruger’s modern homage to the classic British Farquharson-type single-shot—strong, elegant, and famously accurate thanks to its rigid falling-block action and quarter-rib sighting arrangement. While No. 1s are most often encountered in traditional rifle chamberings, a run in .357 Magnum turns the concept into a wonderfully handy, low-recoil carbine with excellent manners for steel, silhouettes, or small to medium game at modest ranges.
The .357 Magnum, introduced by Smith & Wesson and Winchester in 1935, set the standard for high-intensity revolver cartridges and remains a versatile performer from long guns—where velocity gains are meaningful and trajectory flattens appreciably. This example is further distinguished by the “California Association of Highway Patrolmen – Limited Edition” receiver marking, linking it to a commemorative/benefit issue and giving it extra appeal for Ruger and law-enforcement theme collectors alike. Condition shows storage oxidation but honest, uniform wear; the bore is strong, the stocks attractive, and the mechanics are sound—precisely the kind of No. 1 that rewards a careful clean-up and range zeroing. We are no longer offering layaway. KF
