Serial Number: 133-94179

Year of Manufacture: 2002

Caliber: .458 Lott

Action Type: Falling Block Single Shot

Markings: The top of the barrel is marked with Ruger’s 2-Line warning and Southport address. The left side of the barrel is marked with “458 LOTT”. The top of the receiver is marked “RUGER / NO. 1”. The bottom left of the receiver is marked with the serial number.

Barrel Length: 24”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade, inserted and pinned to an integral barrel ring. The rear sight is an adjustable flip-up U-notch sight with a white diamond aiming reference, dovetailed to the quarter rib, which is also set up for Ruger-style scope rings.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are a two-piece laminate wood, with a capped semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, black rubber buttpad, and sling studs front and rear. The LOP measures 13 5/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stocks show no notable handling wear, but there are patches of stains around the receiver from corrosion. There are no chips or cracks. The stocks fit the frame tightly, with no play. Overall, the stocks rate in Good condition.

Type of Finish: Stainless

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there are a few small patches of corrosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 7/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows patchy surface corrosion throughout the barrel, trigger guard, lever, quarter rib, and receiver. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp, but are also corroded. Overall, this rifle rates in Fair to Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the tang safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with its original serial number matching box, owner’s manual/paperwork, scope rings, and gun lock.

Our Assessment: The Ruger No. 1 is a modern reinterpretation of the classic falling-block single-shot—a one-piece, rigid action built for precise lockup, a clean sighting plane, and inherent accuracy. Ruger’s machining and fit set the No. 1 apart as a purpose-built single-shot platform, and in .458 Lott this example brings that strong falling block action to a true heavy-bore dangerous-game cartridge. The rifle’s 24? barrel, quarter-rib mount for Ruger-style rings, and laminate furniture present a purposeful, utilitarian package well suited to heavy-bullet work; the original box, paperwork, scope rings and gun lock add completeness to the lot.

Cosmetically this No. 1 presents as an original example, retaining roughly 95% of its stainless finish while showing patchy surface corrosion across the barrel, trigger guard, lever, quarter-rib and receiver and a few small areas of bore corrosion (bore conservatively rated 7/10). The laminate stocks fit tightly and show only localized staining from corrosion, and the markings and serials remain clear and legible. Supplied with original box and paperwork, this Ruger No. 1 is a solid, well-appointed big-bore single-shot with honest cosmetic wear consistent with and storage.
