Sights / Optics: There are no provisions for iron sights. The top of the barrel is mounted with a quarter rib, topped with a Redfield 2-7x wide-angle scope with a duplex reticle. The glass in the scope is clear. The scope shows light wear, with a few minor dings and minor scratches throughout. Overall, the scope rates in Very Good condition. The scope sits in 1” rings.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are a two-piece checkered walnut, with a capped semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, black rubber buttpad, and sling studs front and rear. The LOP measures 13 5/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stocks show light wear, with light scattered scratches and dings throughout. The checkering is well defined, and the stocks fit the frame tightly, with no play. The stock’s finish is strong throughout. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stocks rate in Very Good to Fine condition.
Type of Finish: Blued
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some dust in the bore from storage. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows minor wear, with only a couple minor dings and hairline scratches on the barrel. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads range from sharp to tooled, but all retain serviceable slots. The bluing is deep and dark throughout. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good to Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the tang safety. The trigger has a crisp and clean break. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the scope as mentioned above.
Our Assessment: The Ruger No. 1 is a refined falling-block single-shot designed for rigidity, a clean sighting plane, and precise lockup — attributes that make it a favorite for deliberate, accuracy-first shooting and custom builds. Ruger’s No. 1 in a Weatherby magnum chambering is a purposeful combination: the falling block action and quarter-rib give a direct, repeatable platform for optics, and the 26? barrel on this 1995 example preserves the rifle’s classic, well-balanced profile. The checkered walnut furniture and overall fit-and-finish reflect Ruger’s attention to detail on their premium single-shot models.
Chambered in .300 Weatherby Magnum, this rifle is built to deliver very high velocity and long-range capability when paired with the appropriate bullets and loads — a cartridge that rewards careful, single-shot accuracy and thoughtful load selection. This particular No. 1 checks out very well cosmetically and mechanically: the bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates 10/10, the metal retains approximately 98% of its original finish, and the stocks present in Very Good to Fine condition with only light handling wear. The action, tang safety and trigger functioned correctly during our mechanical inspection; the included Redfield 2–7× wide-angle optic is a useful complement.
