The stocks fit the frame tightly, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stocks rate in Fine to Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some dust in the bore from storage. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows no notable wear. The bluing is deep and dark throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine to Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the tang safety. The trigger has a crisp and clean break. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the scope as mentioned above.

Our Assessment: The Ruger No. 1 is a modern classic single-shot that channels old-school falling-block simplicity into a precision-minded hunting platform. Ruger’s one-piece action delivers rock-solid lockup, a clean sighting plane and excellent inherent accuracy — attributes that make the No. 1 a favorite for deliberate single-shot work and custom builds. This 1976 example chambered in .25-06 Remington pairs that refined action with a 26? barrel and attractive checkered walnut, presenting as a very well-kept, ready-to-use rifle.

The .25-06 Remington is a superb choice for medium game and varmint work — flat-shooting, efficient, and well suited to the No. 1’s single-shot accuracy. This rifle carries a special barrel marking referencing the nation’s bicentennial year, a nice cosmetic touch for collectors and a subtle conversation piece in the field.

The metal and finish are essentially untouched, about 99% original factory finish retained, the bore is bright with sharp rifling (10/10), and the checkered walnut stocks fit tightly and present with only light, honest handling wear. The action and tang safety functioned correctly during inspection, and the trigger breaks crisp and clean. The rifle is fitted with a Tasco 6–24×44 scope, mounted in 1? rings and includes the sunshade — a capable optic for long-range precision.

Overall this No. 1 rates in Fine to Excellent condition and is an excellent choice for a buyer who wants a precision single-shot in a practical, proven chambering with strong cosmetics and an excellent bore. Please check out our high quality photos, and good luck on your bids! – J.D.
