Our Assessment: The Ruger New Model Blackhawk Bisley is Ruger’s modern interpretation of the classic target and hunting revolver, combining the robust Blackhawk action with the distinctive Bisley grip frame. Chambered in .41 Remington Magnum, this 2003-produced example offers a balance of power and control, making it an excellent choice for handgun hunters and serious revolver enthusiasts. The .41 Magnum has long been appreciated as a “middle ground” cartridge, delivering flat-shooting performance and hard-hitting energy without the recoil of the .44 Magnum, and in this platform, it’s both accurate and manageable.
This revolver wears a 5 1/2-inch stainless barrel and frame, complemented by factory scroll engraving on the cylinder that reads “RUGER 1896 REVOLVER BISLEY MODEL.” It retains about 98% of its original finish, with only minor superficial marks and a faint turn line. The bore remains sharp and semi-bright, rating 9/10, with only some fouling noted. Fitted with custom antler grips, the revolver displays a striking and classic appearance that pairs well with its robust construction and stainless steel finish.
Mechanically, the revolver functions correctly, with tight cylinder lock-up and a crisp, clean trigger break. Ruger’s Bisley grip frame is designed for superior recoil control and comfort in heavy calibers, further enhancing this revolver’s practicality in the field. With its power, craftsmanship, and engraved cylinder detail, this New Model Blackhawk Bisley offers both utility as a hunting sidearm and appeal as a collectible modern Ruger variant.
