The scope shows no notable wear. Overall, the scope rates in Excellent condition. The scope is mounted directly to the top of the receiver with 30mm Ruger rings, and also features a bubble level attached to the tube of the scope.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece, checkered laminate stock, finished in NaturalGear’s Natural camouflage pattern, with a semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, rubber buttpad with two LOP spacers, and sling studs front and rear. There is a cartridge pouch/cheekpad wrapped around the buttstock. The LOP currently measures 13” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock shows light wear, with a few scratches scattered throughout, mainly at the tip of the forend and on the bottom of the semi-pistol grip. Otherwise, the camo finish is intact. The checkering remains well defined, with sharp peaks. The stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Very Good condition.
Type of Finish: Stainless
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light wear, with scattered scratches and dings throughout the metal surfaces, along with minor freckling of surface corrosion on the receiver, trigger guard, and floorplate. Otherwise, the stainless finish is intact throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. The trigger has a light, crisp, and clean break. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the scope, and cheekpad/pouch as mentioned above.
Our Assessment: Ruger’s M77 Hawkeye FTW Hunter was developed in partnership with the FTW Ranch’s SAAM (Sportsman’s All-Weather, All-Terrain Marksmanship) program, blending Ruger’s rugged controlled round feed action with purpose-driven long-range hunting features refined through real field instruction. This 2018 left-hand example captures that concept fully: a stainless barreled action with a radial brake, a NaturalGear camo laminate stock tuned for stability, and the FTW-engraved floorplate highlighting the rifle’s training-driven pedigree. The rifle remains in very good condition overall, with only scattered superficial wear on the stainless surfaces and light handling marks in the stock. The mechanics are clean, the trigger is crisp, and the rifle presents as a carefully used, high-capability magnum hunting tool.
Chambered in .300 Winchester Magnum, introduced in 1963 and widely regarded as one of the most versatile long-range hunting cartridges in North America, the FTW Hunter makes full use of the round’s ballistic potential. The 24-inch barrel and bright, sharp bore support excellent accuracy, while the muzzle brake tames recoil to aid in follow-through and spotting impacts. The rifle is topped with a Zeiss Conquest V4 6–24×50 scope, providing exceptional optical clarity and a ZMOA-1 reticle designed for precise holdovers at extended distances. Combined with Ruger’s controlled-feed action, stable laminate stock, and premium glass, this FTW Hunter forms a complete long-range hunting system.
