Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is a little stubborn fouling. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 8 or 9 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 92% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at all edges. There are some scattered minor nicks, scuffs and scratches. There are infrequent spots of faint surface oxidation. The screw heads are tool marked with usable slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this gun rates in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None
Our Assessment: The Ruger 44 Carbine has been out of production for quite some time. It is a Pre-Warning rifle made back in 1963. This gun will make quite the hunting companion. It has the power to stop a threat yet is light enough to reasonably carry in the field. We have always wondered why Ruger stopped making these, but until they start production again, you can buy this one. Please see our photos and good luck!
