Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked with an inspection mark followed by “BV 45”. The right side of the barrel is marked “R.E.P.” in an oval and an inspection mark. The top of the barrel is marked “Remington 22 LONG RIFLE ONLY” in front of the rear sight. The bottom of the grip cap is marked “REMINGTON / NYLON / 66” and the left side of the receiver is marked “A2159711”.
Barrel Length: 19 3/8”
Sights / Optics: This rifle is mounted with a square notched rear sight adjustable with a thumbscrew adjustment for elevation and a small screw for windage. The sight is fixed to a boss on the top of the barrel. The front sight is a tall post-style blade screwed to the barrel that has a white square at the top of its rear face. The top of the receiver is grooved for a scope mount mand is installed with a pair of rings and a Cabelas Pine Ridge 4×32 scope. The scope has some scattered light handling marks, no major defects. The scope has a crosshair and the glass is clear. The scope rates in about Excellent condition.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is black checkered nylon. The pistol grip and nose of the forend have black caps with white spacers and the butt has a black buttplate, with white spacer, marked “Remington” and with patent numbers. The forend has a black Schnabel tip with white spacer and smooth black diamonds on both sides. There are some scattered scuffs and draglines. There are scattered nicks and scratches, the most noticeable are on the left side of the forend towards the receiver. The checkering is mostly strong but has a few scattered marks. The LOP measures approximately 13 5/8” to the back of the buttplate. The serrated black plastic buttplate shows light scuffs and scratches at the heel and toe, with a few light handling marks. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 85% of its metal finish. There are scattered nicks and dings into the metal on the receiver, most noticeable on the left side of the receiver. There are some scattered spots of oxidation on the receiver. The barrel has some scattered light scuffs. There is some finish loss on the edge of the muzzle. There are some scattered spots of faint surface oxidation on the barrel. There are a few light marks through the finish on the barrel, much lighter than those on the receiver. There are some light handling marks. There is standard operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are strong with the exception of some of the proofs and inspection marks. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The rifle has a safety mounted in the top of the wrist. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a Remington Nylon 66 Black Diamond model made in 1979, the second year of this models production. The Remington Nylon 66 was a well-liked rifle and Remington produced over 1,000,000 of them, but they only made about 56,000 Black Diamonds from 1978-1987. The Remington Nylon 66 was manufactured from 1959 to the late 1980s. It was the first mass-produced rifle to feature a stock made from a material other than wood. For this reason, it was a huge gamble for Remington. The largely synthetic construction meant that the Nylon 66 could operate without any added lubricants. Some have speculated that the light weight of the gun could potentially cause substandard accuracy in the field, but this does not seem to be a complaint from Nylon 66 shooters. One thing is for sure – this is one of the lightest rifles you will ever find. This will make anyone a great plinker, and is perfect for taking along on those long trips out into the field when you don’t want to carry a 12 pound varmint rifle. This is a neat little .22 that is in about Very Good condition with a great bore and mechanics, topped with a scope this is a perfect new plinker. Please see our photos and good luck!
