Markings: The top of the barrel jacket is marked “REMINGTON ARMS-UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE CO., REMINGTON ILION WORKS, ILION, N.Y. U.S.A. / BROWNING’S PATENTS OCT 9, 1900 OCT. 16, 1900, JUNE 3, 1902, MAY 14, 1907”. The right side of the barrel jacket base is marked with “R.P.” in an oval. The right rear of the barrel, visible at the ejection port is marked “35 REM”. The bottom of the receiver is marked with the serial number “26221” and has inspection marks. The bottom tang is marked with the circled Remington UMC logo, the top tang is marked “Remington / TRADE MARK”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a brass beaded blade dovetailed into a base fixed to the front of the barrel jacket. The rear sight is a “U” notched elevator sight screwed to the barrel jacket.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth walnut with a round bottom pistol grip, straight comb, and Remington UMC buttplate. There is a crack on the top of the wrist at the rear of the tang. There are some scattered little dings, compressions, and draglines. There is thinning. The LOP measures approximately 13 3/4” from the front of the trigger to the checkered black hard rubber Remington buttplate. There are some scattered little nicks, scratches, and scuffs but the lettering and checkering are intact. Overall, the stocks are in about Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright and the rifling is sharp. There are some scattered spots of light pinprick erosion but no heavy erosion.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 85% of its metal finish. The receiver has some scattered nicks, scratches, light scrapes, and spots of oxidation. There is thinning and finish loss on the edges. There are some areas of scuffing and patina on the bottom tang and trigger guard. There are some scattered scuffs that have thinned the finish on the barrel jacket plus nicks, scratches, and some spots of light oxidation. There is some thinning and finish loss on the edges. There is standard operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Remington Model 8 was the brainchild of John Moses Browning. Originally patented in 1900, it was the first successful high-powered semi-auto rifle made in the United States–or just about anywhere else, for that matter. It is a long-recoil operated rifle and feeds from a fixed magazine. The model 8 was chambered in four different Remington rimless cartridges, they were the .25, .30, .32, and .35 Remington. They were primarily used by hunters, though some law enforcement agencies adopted them and it was possible to modify them for removable magazines. It was even the preferred rifle of Texas Ranger Frank Hamer who used a customized .35 caliber model with 15-round magazines, and his was one of the two Model 8’s known to be at the ambush of Bonnie & Clyde. This example was made in 1911 based on its serial number and is chambered in .35 Remington, it is in about Very Good condition with a shootable bore and good mechanics. This one has a pistol grip stock which was a factory option but seems to be a lot less common compared to the straight grip.
