The balance of the finish shows some operational wear, with finish thinning on the faux magazine tube, and on the action bars of the pump. Other than that, the bluing is deep and dark throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp and the pins are unmarred. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine to Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the cross-bolt safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with a total of one magazine, in Excellent condition, as well as the scope as mentioned above.
Our Assessment: The Remington Model 760 Gamemaster in .35 Remington is a classic pump-action rifle known for its versatility, reliability, and solid performance. Introduced in 1952, the Model 760 Gamemaster was designed to provide the rapid follow-up shots of a pump-action shotgun in a rifle format, making it a popular choice among hunters and shooters.
Chambered in .35 Remington, this cartridge was introduced by Remington in the early 20th century as a straight-walled, moderate-power centerfire cartridge intended to provide effective terminal performance on medium game at typical hunting ranges. The cartridge is known for manageable recoil and solid energy delivery, making it a long-standing choice for woodland and brush hunting where heavy penetration and close-to-moderate range performance are desirable.
The Model 760 features a sturdy, machined steel receiver and a smooth, reliable pump action that allows for quick follow-up shots, an advantage in hunting scenarios where speed is crucial. Its detachable box magazine enables easy reloading and versatility in the field. The rifle typically comes with iron sights, but it is also drilled and tapped for scope mounts, allowing for the addition of optics to enhance accuracy. This 1979 example presents as a well-preserved, serviceable pump rifle that is appropriate for hunting and general field use. The rifle retains about 96% of its original blued finish and the walnut stocks rate in Excellent condition. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and was graded approximately 9.5/10 by inspection, and the action and cross-bolt safety function correctly on mechanical check. The Simmons Wide-Angle 3–10×44 scope is mounted and in Very Good condition and the rifle includes a removable magazine.
The Remington Model 760 Gamemaster remains a cherished rifle for its combination of reliability, ease of use, and effective performance in the field. It continues to be favored by hunters who appreciate the quick handling of a pump-action rifle and the potent capabilities of the .35 Remington cartridge.
