The stock’s finish is largely intact, however, the stock’s finish is cracking on both sides of the buttstock. The checkering is well defined, with sharp peaks. The stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play. There are no chips or cracks in the stock itself, just the finish. Overall, the stock rates in Very Good condition.
Type of Finish: Blued
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows minor wear, with one minor ding on the trigger guard, and one minor scratch on the floorplate. The bluing is deep and dark throughout. The jeweling on the bolt is bright and vivid. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good to Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. The trigger has a light, crisp, and clean break. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with any used firearm, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the scope mount as mentioned above.
Our Assessment: Remington’s Model 700 Classic line brought back traditional styling and timeless chamberings in an era when many rifles were trending toward synthetic stocks and matte finishes. Chambered in .220 Swift, the legendary 1935 high-velocity varmint cartridge, the 1992 Classic represents one of the more desirable offerings in the series. The .220 Swift was the world’s first commercial cartridge to break 4,000 feet per second, and it remains a benchmark for flat-shooting, long-range varmint performance. In a 24-inch barrel like this one, the Swift delivers laser-flat trajectories and exceptional accuracy potential.
This rifle is extremely well preserved. The metal retains about 99 percent of its original blue, with only minimal marks on the floorplate and trigger guard. The bolt jeweling is bright, the markings are crisp, and the bore is outstanding; sharp, bright, and fully capable of the precision the Swift is known for. Mechanically, the rifle is excellent, with a clean, crisp trigger and proper safety function. The receiver already wears a one-piece Leupold-style optic base for easy scope installation.
The walnut stock shows light field handling marks and attractive grain, and although the finish is beginning to show cracking on both sides of the buttstock, the wood itself remains structurally sound with no chips or actual cracks. The checkering is sharp, the fit to the action is tight, and the Classic-series profile fluted comb, straight lines, and understated elegance, remains visually appealing.
As a whole, this rifle represents a particularly fine example of a Model 700 Classic in one of the most iconic varmint cartridges ever produced. With its excellent bore, strong metal condition, classic styling, and desirable chambering, this Swift is ready for precision varminting or to serve as a standout piece in a Remington or cartridge-focused collection.
