Our Assessment: The Remington 700 CDL SF (Classic Deluxe Stainless Fluted) was introduced as a premium variation of Remington’s flagship Model 700 line, blending traditional styling with modern stainless durability and fluted-barrel performance. Chambered here in .257 Weatherby Magnum, this rifle carries with it the legacy of one of the most renowned high-velocity cartridges of the 20th century. Developed by Roy Weatherby in the mid-1940s, the .257 Wby Mag. became famous for its flat-shooting trajectory and blistering speed, often described as the quintessential long-range antelope and deer cartridge of the American West. For hunters who needed reach, precision, and raw velocity, few cartridges had the allure of the .257 Weatherby.

This particular rifle, manufactured in August 2008, is an excellent representation of the CDL SF line. It features a 26” stainless fluted barrel, combining the corrosion resistance of stainless steel with the added rigidity and reduced weight of fluting. The factory checkered walnut stock provides a classic aesthetic, with a capped semi-pistol grip, fluted comb, cheekpiece, and black forearm tip. The bore remains bright with sharp rifling, rating a perfect 10/10, and the rifle itself retains about 99% of its original finish with only the lightest operational evidence. The bolt’s crisp jeweling remains vivid, underscoring its lightly-used condition.

For hunters and collectors alike, this rifle represents an appealing mix of elegance and power. The .257 Weatherby Magnum is one of the most iconic and efficient cartridges in Roy Weatherby’s lineup, and when paired with Remington’s 700 CDL SF, it creates a rifle that is both highly capable in the field and attractive in the rack. With its classic wood-and-steel appearance, strong mechanical integrity, and premium chambering, this Remington 700 is an ideal choice for the shooter who values both performance and pedigree.
