Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number at the breech and “Remington / MODEL 700” at the midsection. The left side of the barrel is marked with a warning above “REMINGTON ARMS COMPANY INC., ILION, N.Y. U.S.A.” and “35 WHELEN”. The left side of the chamber is marked with an inspection mark and “XJ 30”. The right side of the barrel is marked with inspectors marks at the breech. The bottom of the bolt is matched and hand-marked “8156”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into a serrated ramped base screwed to the barrel. The front sight has been painted orange and has a protective hood. The rear sight is a “U” notched sight with a white triangle reference on a slider on an elevation ramp fixed to the rear of the barrel and is adjustable for windage and elevation. The top of the receiver is installed with a pair of bases and rings holding a Bushnell Trophy Wide Angle 3-9×40 scope. The scope has a couple of little marks through the finish and a couple light scuffs. The scope has a duplex reticle and the glass is clear, the scope rates in about Fine condition.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is skipline checkered wood with black caps, white spacers, brass reinforcing pins, and a fluted Monte Carlo comb with a cheekpiece. There are a few light handling marks and draglines. There are a couple small tiny marks through the finish, most noticeable on the bottom of the wrist and belly of the buttstock. The checkering is intact and strong. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures approximately 13 3/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the black rubber Remington buttpad. The pad has some wear at the heel and toe. The stock rates in about Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are a few light handling marks over the metal. The rear sight riser has some mottled plum finish. There are a few little tiny marks on the rear of the bolt. The bolt handle has some mottled plum finish. The markings are clear. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is the previously described Leupold scope and a padded leather sling in about Fine Plus condition.
Our Assessment: The Remington 700 needs no introduction, it has been one of the most popular bolt action rifles in America for decades, seeing use in target shooting, hunting, and in law enforcement and has been produced in just about any caliber and configuration you could think of. This BDL is chambered for the .35 Whelen cartridge and has a 22” barrel, blued finish, and skipline checkered wood stock. This should be a great rifle to take target shooting or hunting and hitting your mark should be no problem with the included Bushnell scope. Please see our photos and good luck!
