Barrel Length: 26” Heavy Contour Varmint Barrel

Sights / Optics: There are no provisions for iron sights. The top of the receiver is mounted with a Burris XTR II 525 5-25x scope with the SCR MOA reticle. The glass in the scope is clear. The scope shows light wear, with a few minor scratches and scuffs in the scope’s finish. Overall, the scope rates in Very Good to Fine condition. The scope is mounted on a two-piece base, and sits in 30mm rings. There is a Vortex bubble level attached to the scope as well.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece black synthetic stock, with a semi-pistol grip with textured grip panels, fluted straight comb with cheekpiece, rubber buttpad, a wide forend with textured grip panels, and three sling studs- two under the forend, and one in the belly of the buttstock. The stock has a cartridge holder/pouch wrapped around the butt of the rifle. The LOP measures 13 3/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock shows light handling wear. The stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play. The textured grip panels are in great condition. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Fine to Excellent condition.

Magazine Quantity & Condition: 1x 5rd AI-Pattern Magazine.

Type of Finish: Matte Blued

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some light fouling present. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light freckling of surface corrosion throughout the barrel, receiver, and bolt handle. Otherwise, the bluing is deep and dark throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. The aftermarket flat-faced trigger has a very light pull, and sometimes the trigger will engage when the bolt is pushed downward. We recommend a qualified gunsmith inspect and/or repair the trigger before any attempt is made to shoot or use this rifle. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the scope, cartridge pouch, and the magazine as mentioned above.

Our Assessment: Remington’s left-hand Model 700 ADL Varmint rifles were built to offer precision-oriented performance in an affordable format, pairing a heavy-contour barrel with the proven Model 700 action. This 2014 example has been further modernized through the installation of aftermarket bottom metal, allowing the rifle to feed from detachable AI-pattern magazines, an upgrade that enhances practicality for target shooting and field use alike. The Burris XTR II 5–25x scope, mounted in 30mm rings and paired with a Vortex bubble level, reinforces the rifle’s long-range intent, giving the shooter ample magnification and a reticle designed for deliberate distance work. Though the rifle shows scattered freckling on the exterior metal, the overall finish remains strong, and the stock is tight and clean with minimal wear.

The .243 Winchester, introduced in 1955, became one of America’s most successful dual-purpose cartridges, offering flat trajectories, modest recoil, and excellent accuracy for both varmints and deer-sized game. In a heavy-barrel platform like this ADL Varmint, the cartridge delivers exceptional precision, aided here by a bore that remains bright and sharply rifled. The aftermarket flat-faced trigger, however, exhibits an unsafe condition by occasionally releasing when the bolt is pushed down. An issue that demands immediate attention from a qualified gunsmith before the rifle is used. Once addressed, the rifle’s solid mechanics, quality optic, and upgraded magazine system make it a capable long-range platform for either target shooting or precision varmint hunting.
