Our Assessment: The Remington Model 700 has earned a place of honor among American sporting and precision rifles. Introduced in the 1960s and refined over the decades, the Model 700’s solid receiver, tight lock-up, and excellent out-of-the-box accuracy have made it a trusted companion for hunters, target shooters, and military snipers alike. This 1976 production rifle features the classic long-action configuration and is chambered in .243 Winchester—a versatile cartridge known for its flat trajectory, mild recoil, and effectiveness on varmints and medium game alike.
This particular rifle retains its clean 24″ barrel and traditional walnut stock, offering both visual appeal and practical field use. While showing light signs of honest wear, its mechanical condition remains strong and the bore is excellent, making it a worthy choice for someone seeking a vintage Remington with life left in the field—or a project base for glass and trigger upgrades.
