Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number and “Remington / MODEL 40-X”. The bolt is matched and hand inscribed “7612”. The left side of the barrel is marked “7.62 NATO”, with an inspection mark, and “KL”. The right side of the chamber has inspection and proof marks.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is an adjustable globe sight with a clear plastic insert with a circular aperture within a black circle. The rear sight is an RPA Trakker sight with a Gehmann adjustable aperture and is screwed to the left side of the receiver. The top of the barrel and receiver are both installed with a pair of scope bases and there is also a pair of drilled, tapped, and filled holes at the rear of the receiver. There is a pair of drilled and tapped holes at the front of the barrel, the front hole is partially interrupted, the rear hole is filled. The rifle is also included with a Remington 20XBR scope and rings. The scope has some scattered light nicks and tiny hairline scratches, most noticeable at the rear. The scope has a crosshair and the glass is clear. The scope rates in about Fine condition.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a metallic green composite target stock with a palm swell pistol grip for right-handed shooters, adjustable comb with cheekpiece, inlaid accessory rail on the forend, and adjustable Remington buttpad. There are scattered light scrapes through the finish, patches of finish loss, and some scratches. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures approximately 13 1/2” from the front of the trigger to the rear of the buttpad. The pad has become hard and has some little cracks and light scrapes. The stock rates in about Very Good-Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are some light scuffs, draglines, and a couple of light hairline scratches on the barrel. There are some little spots of surface oxidation on the receiver. There are some light marks on the trigger guard. There is a scrape on the left rear of the bolt. There is some standard operational wear. The screwheads are sharp to lightly worn with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Installed is the previously described Remington scope.
Our Assessment: Introduced in 1962, the Remington 40-X series has been a staple of bench-rest shooting for more than half a century. The Remington Custom Shop produces all of the rifles in this series to ensure superior performance. This example is a 40-XC KS in Fine condition would make a great rifle for someone looking to get into precision shooting. This one is chambered for 7.62×51 NATO, has a great bore, and has a nice adjustable stock to fit just about any shooter. The Model 40-X is well known for its accuracy and built quality, this one comes installed with premium iron sights and scope so you can do any type of target shooting you like.
