Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “28” the top is marked “.45 GOVT”. The top of the receiver is marked “REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION, N.Y. / SOLE MANUFACTURERS AND AGENTS” and “41944” on the left side parallel to the barrel. The bolt handle is marked “28”. The right side of the rear sight base is marked “554”.

Barrel Length: 30 1/2″

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade pinned into a slotted base that is integral to the barrel. The rear sight is a flip-up ladder sight with a fixed “V” notch on the top of the ladder and a “V” notch on the slider. When flipped down, there is a fixed “V” notch. The left of the receiver has been installed with a scope base and ring combo holding a Weaver K4 scope. The scope has some scattered scuffs, areas of finish loss, little nicks, and scattered oxidation. The scope has a graduated post reticle and the glass is clear though in need of a good cleaning. The scope rates in about Good condition. One of the mounting screwheads has snapped off.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is one-piece checkered wood with a straight grip, straight comb, cheekpiece, and metal buttplate. There are a few scattered light compressions and draglines. The stock has been modified for the scope base and has there is some wood filler. There is a small crack on the left side of the stock along the top edge at the chamber. The checkering is mostly sharp. The LOP measures approximately 13 1/2” from the front of the trigger to the rear of the smooth metal buttplate. The buttplate has scattered pitting and discoloration from oxidation. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is dark and the rifling is worn. There is scattered erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 65% of its metal finish. The top of the barrel has scattered scuffs, little marks, patina, and discoloration from oxidation. There is strong bluing on the bottom of the barrel which would have been protected by the original forend and there is strong bluing at the location of the old barrel bands. The receiver has mottled patina, finish loss, and erosion. The rear screwhead of the mounting screws for the scope base has broken off. The screw heads are lightly worn with strong serviceable slots. The markings are clear and easily read. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is one 4-round magazine. It has a dent on the right side and we are unsure if it will feed properly

Our Assessment: This is an 1882 Remington-Lee chambered for .45-70 Government. The stock has been cut and a scope has been installed. it has good mechanics and nice markings. This will be a nice addition to your antique collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
