Our Assessment: The Remington Model 1100 stands as one of the most successful semi-automatic shotguns ever produced, introduced in 1963 and quickly earning a reputation for soft recoil, excellent balance, and dependable gas-operated performance. Built in Ilion, New York, the 1100 helped define the modern sporting autoloader and remains a benchmark for field and clay guns alike. This 16 Gauge example with a 28-inch vent-rib barrel reflects the enduring appeal of the “gentleman’s gauge,” offering the handling characteristics of a lighter upland gun while maintaining useful payload performance. The engraved receiver and matte blue finish give this example a subtle but attractive sporting presence.

Chambered for 2 3/4 inch 16 gauge shells, this shotgun is configured around a RemChoke threaded barrel with a Full choke installed, allowing the user to tailor patterns as desired. The 16 gauge cartridge, introduced in the late 19th century, has long been favored for upland game due to its efficient balance of shot charge and recoil, particularly in well-proportioned guns such as the 1100. The bore is bright with no erosion and rates 9 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The silver bead front sight, painted white for visibility, sits atop the ventilated rib, providing a clean sighting plane suited to wingshooting and clay targets.

This shotgun retains approximately 95 percent of its original matte blue finish, with light scratches, handling marks, and minor corrosion staining consistent with careful use. Markings remain clear and legible throughout. The two-piece checkered camo synthetic stock set features a capped pistol grip, fluted straight comb, finger-shelf forend, and rubber buttpad, with a 14-inch length of pull. The stocks show light handling wear along leading edges but remain in Very Good condition overall. The action functions correctly. We did not fire this shotgun. As with all previously owned guns, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards. Please see our photos and good luck on your bid! MF
