Markings: The top of the receiver is marked “U.S. / REMINGTON / MODEL 03-A3 / 3891690”. The top of the barrel is marked “R A / flaming bomb / 6 – 43”. The bottom of the barrel is marked “P”. The safety is marked “SAFE READY” and the magazine cutoff is marked “ON OFF”. The stacking loop, the front sling loop, back of the safety, magazine cutoff, rear sling loop base, underside of the bolt handle, right side of the rear of the bolt, are all marked “R” for Remington. The nose of the stock is marked with a flaming bomb. The bottom of the barrel is marked “P”. There is a circle “P” on the bottom of the wrist. The left of the wrist is stamped with a boxed cartouche but it is faded and we cannot decipher it and “O.G.” in a box for Ogden Arsenal. The bottom of the forend is marked with two boxes, a square, and a triangle in front of the bottom metal, these marks are faded. The right side of the front sight is marked “E”.
Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a pinned blade set in a raised base. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aftermarket peep sight that is screwed to the right of the receiver. The rear sight has two aftermarket phillips heads in the right side. The receiver has had its rear sight male dovetail removed by a previous owner.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The hardwood stock has a straight grip, metal nose cap, stacking loop, 2 barrel bands, 2 sling loops, 2 reinforcing pins, and a metal buttplate with a hinged door for storage. There are some infrequently scattered draglines, compressions, and some impact marks. Some of these defects have removed small portions of surface wood, most noticeable on the handguard at the rear barrel band. These marks have mainly darkened with age. The LOP measures 12 ¾ inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has some light finish loss on the edges and a few light impact marks. The stock rates in about Very Good-Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright turning slightly grey at the muzzle and the two groove rifling is sharp. There is is some erosion in the bore that is infrequently scattered with a few small light pits scattered in. The bore has an M.E. of about 1.0.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 85% of its metal finish. The rear sight male dovetail has been removed from the top of the receiver by a previous owner. The arm of the bolt handle has a light relief cut. The bolt handle has some erosion and spots of dark discoloration from previous oxidation. The bottom metal has some mottled discoloration & thinning. There are a few scrapes, most noticeable on the trigger guard. The barrel and front sight have small patches of oxidation, and the front sight base has some scrapes. The screw heads ragne from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The important markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition as arsenal refurbished.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with a two point olive green cloth sling. The sling is marked in black with what appears to be “MRT / JAN 1953” but it is quite faded. The sling has some patches of oragnish discoloration and there are some lightly frayed edges. The metal clasp has an anchor marked on it. One of the sling retaining ears from the clasp has snapped off. The sling rates in about Very Good condition.
Our Assessment: This Remington Model 1903-A3 was made during WWII in 1943. The wood looks nice, the metal has some light wear, and the bore can still do work at the range. The markings on the receiver and barrel are nice and clear. There are also little “R” markings on several of the small metal parts. This one was sent to the Ogden Arsenal for refurbishment or repair and is marked with the “O.G.” stamp on the left of the stock. Even though the rear sight dovetail has been removed, this is a nice rifle that will be a ton of fun at the ragne with your shooting buddies.
