Our Assessment: The Remington 870 Wingmaster stands as one of the most refined and enduring pump action shotguns ever produced, combining rugged reliability with the higher grade fit and finish that defined Remington’s Wingmaster line. By the late 1960s, the Model 870 had already established itself as a benchmark for smooth operation and durability, and the .410 bore Wingmaster represented the pinnacle of small bore pump shotgun production. Built on a scaled-down frame specifically engineered for the .410 bore, these shotguns were produced in comparatively limited numbers and remain highly regarded for their balance, handling, and craftsmanship.

This example was manufactured in August of 1969 and features a 24 inch vent rib barrel with a fixed modified choke, a versatile configuration well suited to upland hunting and clay targets. The shotgun retains approximately 95 percent of its original blued finish, with light edge wear on the receiver and trigger guard and moderate operational wear on the magazine tube consistent with use. The bore is bright and shiny with minimal plastic fouling and rates 9.5 out of 10. The walnut stocks show honest handling wear, including compression marks and a few small chips near the buttplate, but remain solid with sharp checkering and no cracks. Mechanically, the action functions correctly and retains the smooth cycling for which the Wingmaster is known. Overall, this is a very attractive C and R eligible example of a scarce and highly desirable .410 bore Wingmaster, offering both collector appeal and classic Remington quality.
