Our Assessment: The Remington Model 760 Gamemaster was introduced in the early 1950s as a refinement of Remington’s long line of slide-action sporting rifles. Designed to provide rapid follow-up shots with the power of centerfire cartridges, it quickly gained popularity with hunters who appreciated its familiar shotgun-like handling and box magazine system. The carbine configuration, with its 18.5” barrel, was offered in the late 1960s and is notably less common than the standard rifle-length version, giving it added appeal among collectors. Chambered in .30-06 Springfield, the 760 Carbine packed proven big-game performance into a lightweight, fast-handling package ideal for deer woods and dense cover hunting.
This 1969-dated example shows the quality of Remington’s late 1960s production, with about 99% of its original blued finish, crisp markings, and excellent press-checkered walnut furniture. The bore is bright and sharp, rated a perfect 10/10, and the rifle appears to have seen little to no use beyond factory testing. Complete with its factory box, manual, and magazine, it presents not only as a fine shooter but as a highly collectible period piece in remarkably well-preserved condition. A scarce carbine-length Gamemaster in outstanding shape, it embodies both Remington’s craftsmanship and the practical appeal that made the 760 a favorite in the deer woods for decades.
