Our Assessment: The Remington 700 Classic line was introduced in 1981 with a focus on chambering in more traditional and sometimes unusual cartridges, with each year’s production highlighting a specific chambering. The 1988 edition was chambered in .35 Whelen, a powerful cartridge developed by Col. Townsend Whelen and James Howe in the 1920s by necking up the .30-06 Springfield case to accept .358” bullets. It has become a favorite for hunters of elk, bear, and moose thanks to its excellent power and versatility.

This 1988 Remington 700 Classic in .35 Whelen remains in Like New in Box condition, showing virtually no wear, with its original box and paperwork included. The rifle’s 22” barrel, excellent bore, and sharp walnut stock reflect both collectibility and functionality. For Remington collectors or hunters seeking a powerful and classic American bolt gun, this rifle is a rare opportunity—especially in this pristine state.
