Our Assessment: The Remington 40X is one of the most highly respected bolt-action rimfire target rifles ever made. Designed for competitive shooting, these rifles were built to the highest standards of precision, and this early 1955 example—serial number 0193—is no exception.
The rifle is equipped with a Redfield Olympic front globe sight and has been set up for a rear Olympic-style sight on a side-mounted block, a configuration popular with match shooters of the 1950s and 60s. The clean, stock and crisp bore further speak to this rifle’s quality and care throughout its life.
This would make an excellent piece for collectors of U.S. military or target rifles, especially those looking for an early production Remington 40X. It’s also a viable candidate for precision rimfire matches today, or as a top-tier platform for a custom rimfire build. Please see our High Quality photos and good luck on your bids.-C.M.
