Markings: The top of the receiver is marked “U.S. / REMINGTON / MODEL 03-A3 / 3925869”. The top of the barrel is marked “R A / flaming bomb / 9- 43”. The bottom of the barrel is marked “P”. The safety is marked “SAFE READY” and the magazine cutoff is marked “ON OFF”. The front sight, nosecap, stacking loop, front sling loop, rear sight, magazine cutoff are each marked “R” for Remington. The top of the bolt handle is marked “X”. The bottom of the bolt handle is marked “8” and with a punch. The left side of the butt is marked with an Arsenal rebuild stamp from the Ogden Arsenal “OG”. The left side of the stock, above the trigger, is marked “RA” (Remington Arms), with an inspector’s cartouche ”FJA” and with an Ordnance Department “crossed cannons” cartouche. The “FJA” stamp has no “box” around the initials; it may have been restamped during the Arsenal Rebuild. The bottom of the grip is marked with a “circled P” proof. The area of wood in front of the bottom metal is stamped with 4 inspection stamps that consist of various “boxed & circled numbers”.

Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a pinned blade set atop a raised base. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight marked from “2-8” on the top and “0” with hash marks on the rear.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The hardwood stock shows a few small scrapes and light handling marks. It also shows some compression marks on the belly of the stock. The LOP measures 13 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Fine Plus overall condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Original to Arsenal Rebuild

Bore Condition: The 2 grooved bore is bright; semi bright near the muzzle. The rifling is deep. There is no erosion. The bore shows an M.E. of 0.0.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The metal shows scuffs and light handling marks.The barrel & trigger guard also show scrapes. The screw heads show moderate use. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: A metal oiler tube is stored in the butt. It is stuck in the storage compartment so we did not grade it. We did now want to force it out and damage the buttplate or the oiler.

Our Assessment: This Remington Model 1903-A3 was made during WWII. It has great markings on the metal and nice stampings on the wood. The Remington markings on the receiver and barrel are deep. There are also lots of little “R” markings on several of the small metal parts. This is a good looking 03A3 that will add to your collection.
