Our Assessment: This Tommy Built TMP offers an exceptionally rare configuration as a .357 SIG HK UMP-style clone, combining the iconic ergonomics of the UMP platform with a cartridge seldom seen in this format. Built with an 8-inch barrel threaded 1/2×28 and equipped with a tri-lug adapter, it’s ready for suppression or muzzle devices right out of the box. The pistol includes three 30-round UMP magazines, standard HK UMP sights, a full-length top Picatinny rail for optics, and a folding pistol brace that keeps handling compact and fast. Its forend carries three rail sections, one of which currently mounts a Streamlight TLR-1 HL, an excellent high-output weapon light that complements the TMP’s practical defensive and short range-focused role.
Chambering the TMP in .357 SIG makes it truly uncommon, as very few UMP-pattern builds were ever produced in this high-velocity bottleneck cartridge. Introduced in the mid-1990s, .357 SIG was engineered to replicate .357 Magnum performance from a semi-automatic platform, delivering exceptional barrier penetration, reliable feeding due to its bottleneck case, and flat, fast-shooting ballistics. Pairing that cartridge with the controllable, lightweight UMP-style design results in a pistol that is both collectible and genuinely capable. Altogether, this TMP stands out as a rare-caliber, well-equipped modern pistol that blends HK-inspired aesthetics with performance-oriented features rarely seen on the open market.
