Our Assessment: This Smith & Wesson Model 10-7 represents a scarce and well-documented international contract variant of one of the most widely issued service revolvers in history. Produced circa 1984, these revolvers were manufactured under contract for the Peruvian Policía de Investigaciones del Perú, as evidenced by the clearly stamped national police crest on the sideplate. These Model 10-7 revolvers were produced on a contract with the Peruvian Police Dept.  Apparently, there was a contract overrun and many of the models wound up in dealer hands without being exported to Peru, making this a very rare version of a S&W Model 10-7.  Contract-marked Model 10s are encountered far less frequently than standard commercial examples, and this particular Peruvian Police marking places the revolver firmly within the context of Cold War–era international law enforcement procurement.

Chambered in .38 Special and fitted with a compact 2-inch barrel, this configuration was well suited to investigative and plainclothes roles where concealability and rapid handling were essential. The tapered barrel, fixed sights, and K-frame balance deliver the familiar handling qualities that made the Model 10 a benchmark service revolver for decades. While many of these revolvers were intended for export, it is generally accepted that a portion of the contract was never delivered overseas, resulting in a limited number of overrun examples entering the commercial market still bearing their Peruvian Police markings.

This example retains approximately 95 percent of its original blued finish and presents in Fine overall condition, with only light handling marks, a thin cylinder turn line, and faint carbon rings consistent with limited use. The bore is exceptional, rating a full 10 out of 10, and the action exhibits the smooth double-action and crisp single-action pull expected of Smith & Wesson service revolvers from this period. Accompanied by its matching factory box, this Peruvian Police Model 10-7 stands as a rare and desirable contract revolver that adds genuine historical depth to any Smith & Wesson or law enforcement collection.
