Our Assessment: The Norinco Factory 666 SKS is a remarkable example of Chinese engineering and a valued collectible among firearm enthusiasts. This particular SKS, hailing from the year 1977, represents a time when Norinco — a name synonymous with robust military manufacturing — was producing some of the most reliable and sought-after firearms in the world. The SKS itself is a semi-automatic carbine, celebrated for its simplicity, durability, and the 7.62x39mm cartridge it fires, which delivers reliable performance and respectable stopping power.
What sets the Factory 666 SKS apart is its link to a specific and somewhat mysterious Chinese state arsenal — one that has gained almost mythical status due to its beastly number and has become a hard to find piece for the best of SKS collections. Norinco’s SKS models are often considered to be of higher craftsmanship than their counterparts from other factories, with better metal finishes and more attention to detail in the wood stocks.
Owning a Factory 666 SKS from 1977 is not merely a nod to historical significance; it is to possess a piece of Cold War-era armament that has seen countries and conflicts come and go, yet remains a reliable piece to this day. This particular rifle likely retains the classic features that make the SKS a perennial favorite: a fixed magazine, rugged wood stock, and the distinctive attached bayonet that harkens back to its military origins. For those with a discerning eye for history and a respect for well-crafted machinery, the Factory 666 SKS is a touchstone to a pivotal era in firearm development.
