Our Assessment: Introducing the D-Max Industries 100c carbine chambered in .45 ACP, a rifle that combines rarity and pre-ban status. The D-Max 100 series was the brainchild of David M. Dugger, a police officer in Washington back in 1985. Recognizing the need for a reliable and affordable weapon with more firepower than a standard sidearm, Dugger set out to develop the D-Max.

The D-Max Industries was established in 1986, offering two variants of their design: the D-Max 100C carbine and the D-Max 100P pistol. Today, the carbine variant is of particular interest. With its 16-inch barrel and a 30-round magazine, the D-Max 100C was designed to provide law enforcement officers with a capable and cost-effective alternative to the traditional shotgun for tactical purposes.

One remarkable aspect of the D-Max 100 series is its versatility in chambering options. While originally chambered in 10mm Auto, it could also be configured in .45 ACP, .41 AE, .40 S&W, .38 Super, and 9x19mm Parabellum. This allowed officers to choose the caliber that best suited their needs or department requirements.

The D-Max 100C featured walnut wood furniture and an aluminum barrel shroud, with the rest of the firearm being parkerized and coated in a proprietary finish known as “MAX-Coat.” In the case of .45 ACP models, modified M3 Grease Gun magazines were used, also treated with MAX-Coat. Other sources suggest that the 9x19mm variants utilized British Sten and Lancaster magazines.

While limited information is available regarding its reliability, several publications from the time mentioned that the D-Max carbine was accurate and exhibited no reported malfunctions. However, detailed accounts are scarce.

Despite its promising design and suitability for police use, the D-Max 100 series never gained widespread adoption. Today, these rifles are considered rare and highly sought after by collectors, with many residing in private collections. It’s worth noting that D-Max Industries no longer exists, further adding to the rarity and desirability of these firearms.

So, if you come across a D-Max Industries 100c carbine in .45 ACP, you’ve stumbled upon a true gem. Its unique history, limited production, and pre-ban status make it a prized possession among firearms enthusiasts and collectors alike.
