Markings:  The left side of the barrel is marked “-WINCHESTER- / -TRADE MARK- / -MADE IN U.S.A.-“, “-MODEL 94-30-30 WIN.- / -WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL”.  The top of the barrel and receiver are marked with Winchester WP proofs. The bottom of the receiver is marked with the serial number.

Barrel Length: 20″

Sights / Optics:  The front sight is a hooded beaded blade dovetailed to a serrated, ramped base fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a u-notch elevator sight dovetailed to the barrel. The notch is fine-adjustable for elevation.

Stock Configuration & Condition:  The stocks are two-piece smooth wood with banded forend, straight grip, straight comb, and checkered steel buttplate. The LOP measures 13 1/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stocks have been refinished. There are scattered handling marks, scratches, and compression dents throughout. There are chips next to the tang that have been finished over. There are no cracks. Overall, the stocks are in about Good condition for a refinish.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. There is minor fouling. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10. 

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 85% of its current metal finish. There are scratches, handling marks, and scattered corrosion stains throughout The receiver finish has bluing loss on the leading edges from carrying afield. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in about Good Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The rifle has a half-cock safety and a lever safety. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This pre-64 Winchester Model 94 Carbine is a solid postwar example of one of the most recognizable sporting rifles ever produced, manufactured in 1951 during the final years before Winchester’s major design and production changes. By this period, the Model 94 had already become deeply ingrained in American hunting culture, valued for its light weight, fast handling, and mechanical simplicity. Pre-1964 carbines such as this one are especially noted for their forged receivers and traditional construction, attributes that continue to define the classic Winchester lever action profile.

Chambered in .30-30 Winchester, the rifle is paired with a cartridge introduced in the mid 1890s that went on to define the practical deer rifle for much of the twentieth century. The 20 inch barrel retains the standard carbine configuration, fitted with a hooded beaded front sight on a ramped base and a u notch rear elevator sight that is fine adjustable for elevation. This straightforward iron sight arrangement reflects the rifle’s original purpose as a dependable woods carbine, optimized for quick target acquisition and practical field ranges.

Condition shows honest use consistent with a working sporting rifle. Approximately 85 percent of the current metal finish remains, with edge wear on the receiver from carrying afield, along with scattered scratches, handling marks, and light corrosion staining. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, shows minor fouling, and rates 9 out of 10. The stocks have been refinished and display compression dents, scratches, and small chips near the tang that have been finished over, though no cracks are present. Markings remain clear, screwheads are sharp, and the action functions correctly with both half cock and lever safeties intact. This 1951 carbine from Winchester stands as a representative Good Plus example of a pre-64 Model 94 that reflects decades of American sporting use.
