Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with light wear. There is no visible erosion. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: The finish of the rifle rates at about 94%. There is some edge wear and marks near the taps where optics used to be mounted. The finish shows some thinning and a few scattered blemishes throughout. The floorplate and trigger guard shows heavy finish wear from operation and handling. The markings are crisp and legible. Overall, this rifle rates in Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. The trigger has a crisp and clean break. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: A quintessential example of the Model 70’s golden-era pedigree: the Supergrade label signals top-tier fit-and-finish on the classic controlled-round-feed Mauser-style action — tight lockup, silky bolt travel, and the refined lines that made the pre-1964 70 the benchmark for American sporters. The 24? barrel pairs perfectly with the .30-06’s long-range appetite, and the Supergrade trim (though worn and refinished) shows upgraded stock work, fine checkering, and elegant appointments that give the rifle a handsome, heirloom presence alongside its proven mechanical bones.
The 1938 date places it squarely in pre-war Winchester production when painstaking fitting and controlled-feed reliability were hallmarks of the line — a rifle that reads both as a precision field tool and a well-crafted period collectible. C&R eligible. We are no longer offering layaway. Be sure to check our detailed pictures for a better understanding of the firearm. -C.R.
