The checkering is sharp. The LOP measures 13 3/4” from the front of the trigger to the back of the pad, and 12 1/2” to the back of the wood. The pad has scattered light scuffs and light wear at the heel and toe. Overall, the stock rates in Very Good-to-Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion, but there are a few spots of minor stubborn fouling scattered about, mostly near the muzzle.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 96% of its metal finish. The barrel has scattered minor nicks and a few scuffs, the most notable of which is on the top to the rear of the barrel boss. There is minor thinning on some edges of the receiver. There is minor thinning on the bolt handle The screw heads are sharp with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine-plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. There is a safety mounted on the control-feed bolt. Pushed forwards, the safety is OFF. If pulled back all the way, it locks both the bolt and the trigger. If pulled back half-way, it blocks only the trigger. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork, and Accessories: None.
Our Assessment: This is a vintage pre-1964 Winchester Model 70 Super Grade rifle chambered in .30-06 Springfield and was manufactured in 1952. The Super Grade has nicer-grain wood with a nose cap, grip cap, straight comb with cheekpiece and finer checkering than would be found on the Standard Rifles. The rifle is in Fine-plus condition with evidence of careful use in the field, retaining a decent bore and strong mechanics. .30-06 is an enduring and continually popular cartridge in the states, readily available even in today’s strange climate. The Pre-64 Winchesters have sincere collector interest, especially a Super Grade such as this one, and this would be a wonderful addition—or an incredible start—to a Winchester collection. Good luck and happy bidding!
