Bore Condition: The bore is rather bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion, but there are a few spots of minor stubborn fouling scattered about, mostly on the lands.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The action has very minor operational wear. The barrel has only a few minor nicks concentrated primarily near the tip. The receiver has minor thinning on most edges. The screw heads are sharp with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. There is a safety mounted on the bolt. Pushed forwards, the safety is OFF. If pulled back all the way, it locks both the bolt and the trigger. If pulled back half-way, it blocks only the trigger. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork, and Accessories: None.
Our Assessment: This is a vintage pre-1964 Winchester Model 70 standard rifle manufactured in 1953 and chambered in .270 Winchester. The bore is mostly bright with sharp rifling and only a scant amount of minor fouling. The rifle has provision for just about any kind of sighting system you would want to install. Presently, the rifle is fitted with a vintage Bushnell scope. The pre-64 Winchester Model 70 actions are prized by shooters and collectors alike for their smoothness and reliability, and this one is no exception. Chambered in .270 Winchester, this rifle is suitable for game such as deer. In its condition, this rifle will make a great addition to a Model 70 collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
