Our Assessment: This 1952 Winchester Model 70 Standard Rifle chambered in .375 H&H Magnum is a fine example of one of the most respected dangerous game rifles ever produced. The .375 Holland & Holland Magnum has long been a benchmark cartridge for serious big game and safari hunting, offering outstanding penetration, reliable expansion, and manageable recoil in a full-power magnum package. Winchester’s pre-64 Model 70 action—with its controlled-round feed and Mauser-style claw extractor—is perfectly suited for the task, offering legendary reliability in harsh conditions where a second shot may count.

This example is in Fine Plus overall condition and retains approximately 95% of its original metal finish. The bore is bright with strong rifling and only light fouling, rating 9/10 in this writer’s opinion. The matching-number bolt confirms the rifle’s originality, and the factory sights include a Lyman 6-W dual-leaf rear—ideal for variable-distance shooting in the field. The stock features classic Winchester styling with a Monte Carlo comb, crisp checkering, and solid walnut construction. There are a few scattered nicks, handling marks, and some finish loss on the buttstock, but no cracks or structural issues.

Model 70s chambered in .375 H&H are prized by collectors and hunters alike, particularly those manufactured during the pre-64 era. With its desirable caliber, original condition, and smooth action, this rifle is equally suited to the African bushveld, the Alaskan wilderness, or the rack of a serious Winchester collection. Whether you’re chasing game or building a legacy collection of American sporting rifles, this is a rare opportunity to own one of the finest purpose-built hunting rifles of the 20th century.
