Model: 98AZ Carbine. A variation of the Polish Model 98 Rifle. Based on the German Gewehr 98 (Gew. 98).

Markings: There is no visible import mark. The top of the receiver is marked “792” and “Polish eagle / P.F.K. / WARSZAWA / 1929”. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number and “K98”. The bottom metal is marked with the serial number and with numbers that correspond to the serial number. The bolt assembly and some other metal parts are marked with numbers that do not correlate to the serial number. The bottom of the bolt handle is marked with an “eagle” and faded marks. There are a few other small stampings on the rifle.
The base of the Model 1922 bayonet blade is marked “eagle / W.P.” on one side and “F.B. / RADOM” on the other. The bayonet crosspiece is marked “9341”. The spine of the grip is marked with a “sun”.
Barrel Length: Approximately 23 ¾ Inches
Sights / Optics: The front sight is an inverted “V” post set between two protective ears. The rear sight is a “V” notched blade attached to a sliding escalator assembly marked from “3-20”.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The hardwood stock has a pistol grip, nosecap, stacking rod, barrel band with sling loop & sling bar, sling loop under the butt, through bolt, sling well with sling bar, and a metal buttplate. The buttplate shows surface erosion. The wood shows numerous scrapes, scratches and compression marks. Several have damaged small portions of the surface wood. Most of these marks have been oiled over. The LOP measures 12 ¾ inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.

Bore Condition: The lands are grey and the grooves are dark. The rifling is defined; shallow at the muzzle. There is erosion throughout.
Overall Condition: This rifle has lost its metal finish to oxidation. The metal shows scratches, discoloration from oxidation and light surface erosion. The screw heads show use and oxidation. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with a Polish Model 1922 bayonet, scabbard and belt frog. The grip metal shows discoloration and surface erosion. The grip wood shows scratches and compression marks. The blade shows oxidation. Overall the bayonet is in about Very Good condition. The scabbard shows discoloration from oxidation and surface erosion. It is in about Fair to Good condition. The leather on the belt frog shows scrapes, surface loss and discoloration. The strap leather has broken off. Overall the frog is in about Fair to Good condition.

This Polish 98AZ Carbine was made back in 1929 by P.F.K. Warszawa located in Warsaw, Poland. It is based on the German Gew. 98 and was produced on machinery from the Danzig Arsenal in Germany.
