Our Assessment: This POHF Childers-built AK kit presents as a tidy, well-executed modern assembly that wears its provenance plainly: Egyptian/Arabic script on the sight assembly, a 1988 trunnion stamp, and clear POHF/Childers receiver markings give the rifle an identifiable kit history while the 16.25” threaded barrel, matte-black finish and Tapco G2 trigger announce its practical, purpose-built intent. Cosmetic condition is excellent — roughly 99% finish retained with only light operational marks on the wood and metal, crisp, legible stamping, sharp screw heads and unmarred pins — and the bore presents bright with well-defined rifling (9/10). The four-piece stock set and included canvas sling complete a clean, ready-to-service package that reads fine for display or practical use.
The 7.62×39 cartridge that feeds this platform has its origins in mid-20th century Soviet small-arms development and is best known for pairing reliable, hard-hitting performance with controllable recoil at short to medium ranges — the round is the backbone of countless AK variants worldwide and remains valued for durability and practical terminal energy inside typical engagement distances. In this configuration the rifle combines that classic cartridge role with a compact, threaded-barrel profile suitable for modern utility. We are no longer offering layaway.
