Our Assessment: The Parker Hale P1853 Enfield rifle musket is a well regarded modern reproduction of the iconic British service arm that saw widespread use during the mid nineteenth century. Originally adopted by the British Army in 1853, the Pattern 1853 Enfield became one of the most influential military rifles of its era, serving throughout the Crimean War and later seeing extensive use on both sides of the American Civil War. Parker Hale of Birmingham earned a strong reputation for producing historically faithful and mechanically sound reproductions, making their Enfield rifles highly respected among collectors, reenactors, and black powder shooters.

This example features the correct 39 inch barrel chambered in .577 caliber and retains approximately 95 percent of its original blued metal finish, which remains bright with only minimal wear. The lock plate is correctly marked “1853 ENFIELD,” with matching serial numbering on the chamber and appropriate crown over BP proof marks on the tang and barrel. The walnut stock is smooth and well fitted, showing handling marks, nicks, and scratches consistent with use, while the brass furniture has darkened naturally with age. The length of pull measures approximately 14 inches, and the rifle retains its proper three band musket configuration.

The bore is bright with visible rifling and some erosion present, rating 9 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. Mechanically, the percussion action functions correctly. This rifle includes a sling and presents as a very well preserved example of a Parker Hale Enfield rifle musket, offering strong historical presence, excellent overall condition, and faithful nineteenth century military styling.
