Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”. The yoke cut is marked “N115782 / MOD 27-2” and the yoke is marked “38992 / 02”.  The right side  of the barrel is marked “S&W 357 MAGNUM” The right side of the frame, below the cylinder, is marked with the four line “Marcas Registradas” address. The butt is marked “N115782”. The inside of the right grip panel is marked “N” and “105371”.

Barrel Length: 3 1/2”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramp with a square notch micro-click rear adjustable for both windage and elevation.

 Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered wood with S&W medallions at their tops, leaving the serrated front and backstraps exposed. The grips have some light wear to the checkering with light handling marks. There are scratches on the bottom of the grip. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips rate Fine but are not original to the gun.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its original finish. There are scattered light scuffs and handling marks. The trigger and hammer show some operational wear. The screw heads show little tool wear. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in about Fine-plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder lockup produces very light side-to-side play on each chamber with the trigger depressed. The double-action trigger is smooth. The single-action is crisp. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Model 27 is the original .357 magnum pistol. With its 3 ½” barrel, it offers a nice balance of power and size. And, with the adjustable sights giving good accuracy, the large steel N-frame will help with the recoil of .357 Magnum. Firing the .38 special rounds at the range can become a more pleasant option when not wanting the recoil of the .357 magnum’s power. Overall, this is just a fine example of Smith & Wesson’s quality craftsmanship.
