Finish Originality: Original.
Bore Condition: The bores are bright. There is minor plastic fouling only. This writer rates the bores at 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 90% of its original metal finish. There has been considerable fading of the original case-coloring. There is bluing loss at the muzzles. The barrels have strong bluing with just a few tiny scratches. It is the opinion of this writer that this gun has never been to the field. The action has minimal operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings and engraving are clear. Overall, this shotgun is in a Fine Condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The barrels lock up to the receiver with no play. The safety engages automatically when the action is opened. The shotgun features dual triggers and an extractor. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: none
Our Assessment: This gun’s lineage is difficult to explore. Neumann and Co. of Liege appears to have made firearms from 1924 to 1962. It was preceded by Neumann Freres, from 1863 to 1924. They were a re-seller of firearms, in this case to importer Silver & Co of San Francisco.
This specialty firearm is quite heavy — weighing in at over 11 pounds. It is chambered in 10 gauge, 3 ½”, making it a very powerful shotgun. While it would be a poor choice for quail, it would make a fine long-range goose gun (choked xtra-full) in the pre-steel shot era of 1954. Even today, with a load of bismuth shot, it would still make a great goose gun. It is in Fine shape, and has been well cared-for. The collector of the unusual or the dedicated goose hunter should take a look at our photos. -C.B.
