Markings: The left side of the slide is marked with the “MAUSER” banner logo followed by “Mauser-Werke A.G. Oberndorf a.N. / Mod. HSc Kal. 7,65mm”. The bottom of the slide, under the muzzle is matched and electropenciled “972”. The right of the slide has an eagle over “N” at the muzzle. The right rear bow of the trigger guard is marked with an eagle over “N”. The right of the chamber is marked with and eagle over “N” but is obscurred by the slide. The front strap is marked with the Kreigsmarine eagle over swastika over an enclircled “M” and has the serial number “708972”. The barrel is matched and marked “972” on the bottom of the chamber. The butt of the grip frame is marked “K” and the left side of the grip frame is marked “K” under the grip.
Barrel Length: Approximately 3 3/8”
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a short blade in the center of a shallow “U” channel that runs along the top of the slide. The rear sight is a square notch dovetailed into the slide. The top of the slide has wavy like pattern for glare reduction.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered walnut with smooth borders and a flat finish to the tops of the checkering as they came from the factory. The grips may be refinished as there is a portion of wood missing from the left grip at the front top corner but it is very well reprofiled and honestly looks factory except for the visible recess in the frame. There are some scattered scuffs through the finish, infrequently scattered impact marks under the finish, some draglines, light compressions, and some spots of dark discoloration. There are no cracks. The checkering is mainly intact and attractive. The grips rate in about Very Good overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 65% of its metal finish. There is some finish loss on the edges. There is scattered mottled finish loss with light erosion, most noticeable on the left of the slide. There are some draglines and spots of mottled thinning. There are some scattered light scrapes, mottled thinning, and some little pinpricks on the grip frame. The trigger guard has some scattered nicks, scuffs through the finish, and some spots of discoloration from previous oxidation plus a couple that are fresh. The safety has some thinning. The grip screws are sharp and the markings are clear. Overall, this pistol rates in about Good-Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. On this model, the safety blocks the firing pin and the trigger in double action, but not single action. If the hammer is cocked and the safety then engaged, the trigger can be pulled once only, allowing the hammer to fall and fire a round. Once the slide is locked back and the magazine is removed, the slide falls automatically when the magazine is re-inserted. The slide is tight to the frame. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with a 7 round magazine. The mag has some scattered oxidation, scratches, scabbing, and some finsih loss. It rates in about Good condition.
Our Assessment: The Mauser Model HSc pistols were made by the Germans during WWII and later by the French when they took over their factory and tooling. It was originally intended as Mauser’s response to the Walther PPK, and the HSc competed with the Walther and Sauer 38H pistols for police and military use. This is an early Nazi Kreigsmarine model with a low serial number. This early variant is interesting in that it has eagle over “N” proofs but lacks waffenamts, this is because they were likely purchased commercially, in fact one just like this can be seen on page 221 of “Mauser Pocket Pistols 1910-1946” by Roy G. Pender III. With its wear, this one likely saw use, consider that it is a Navy gun….saltwater plus a blued finish is likely why the left of the sldie looks as it does. This early model should appeal to just about anyone who has an interest in WWII or Nazi weapons. Please see our photos and good luck!
