Our Assessment: The Montana Rifle Company manufactured three different series of bolt action rifles, featuring its Model 1999 action, which is a hybrid between the Model 70 and the Mauser 98. This action utilized a clone Model 70 trigger and three-position safety, but also incorporated the Mauser 98 breeching system with the C-ring and large claw extractor, the action is noted for being top-notch quality and very strong. The company was formed in 1999 by gunsmith Keith Sipe who had a desire to produce high-quality controlled feed action rifles. This is the American Standard Rifle Stainless, or ASR SS, and has a 24″ barrel chambered for 7mm-08, and a checkered walnut stock. The company is not making guns at the moment as they restructure and seek investors, so this might be your last chance to get one of these high-quality rifles in such good condition. Please see our photos and good luck!
