Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered walnut with smooth borders and a flat finish to the tops of the checkering as they came from the factory. The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are a few infrequent light marks from use and storage. There are some spots of cloudy finish, mainly along the backstrap. There is some light operational wear. There is a bit of light thinning on the safety. The grip screws have light wear and the markings are clear. Overall, this pistol rates in about Fine Plus condition.

Mechanics: Once the slide is locked back and the magazine is removed, the slide falls automatically when the magazine is re-inserted, this is the proper function of the action but sometimes the slide will go forwards when the magazine is removed. The action otherwise functions correctly. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with a pair of 7 round magazines, box, and paperwork including the manual and test target. The magazines have pinly rests attached to the baseplates. One mag has small cracks on either side of the pinky rest and has mottled thinning and discoloration, the other has light handling wear. The mags rate in about Very Good and Excellent condition. The box has scattered light wear and a tear on the hinge of the lid, in about Fine condition.

Our Assessment: The Mauser Model HSc pistols were made by the Germans during WWII and later by the French when they took over their factory and tooling. It was originally intended as Mauser’s response to the Walther PPK, and the HSc competed with the Walther and Sauer 38H pistols for police and military use. This pistol is a later German manufacture model produced after the 1968 import ban and imported by Interarms. It is nickel-plated with checkered walnut grips and a 3 1/4” barrel. The pistol is in Fine Plus condition with about 97% of its metal finish remaining. This little compact pistol looks like it would be a lot of fun to shoot, and operates in both single and double action. It has a slide hold-open feature that doesn’t allow the slide to cycle forward on an empty magazine until the magazine is removed and then re-inserted but this one has a small issue with the mechanics and the slide will sometimes go forwards when the magazine is removed. This finely made pistol will appeal to the Mauser collector who wants to round out his/her collection with a post WWII model. It will also make a nice carry gun that can be carried cocked and locked for a more accurate first shot in single action. Please see our photos and good luck!
