Sights / Optics: The front sight is a short blade with a serrated, ramped rear face fixed to the slide. The rear sight is a square notch dovetailed into the slide.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered Coltwood plastic with strengthening ribs, mold numbers, and large reinforced rings around screw holes. The grips have very light handling wear. The checkering is well defined. There are very faint signs of tooling on the grip screws. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized Frame and Slide , Blued Barrel

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright with sharp rifling with moderate copper and lead fouling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 8.5/10.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 95% of its current metal finish. The finish shows mostly edge wear from handling and operation. There is a faint “idiot mark” under the slide stop on the left of the frame. The action shows operational wear. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in about Very Good to Fine.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger pull is crisp. There is very minor play between the slide and frame. This pistol has manual and grip safeties. We have not fired this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with a single 7-round Scovill Mfg. Co. magazine, and a U.S. Boyt 1943 marked the leather holster. The snap for the belt loop has broken, and some of the brass shows verdigris.

Our Assessment: This example presents the familiar wartime A1 silhouette: arched mainspring housing, shortened trigger, extended grip safety, simplified low-profile sights, and a utilitarian parkerized finish typical of government-issue pistols from the period. Matching serials on slide and frame increase provenance and suggest the pistol retains its original major components; the overall presence and fit reflect the stout, workmanlike engineering the 1911A1 is known for.

Dated 1941, this pistol sits at the entry to America’s World War II mobilization—an era when Colt and contract shops produced service pistols in large numbers for military issue, depot repair, and training. As a matching-number 1941 piece, it’s a direct link to that wartime production story: a service-ready design built to strict functional standards, carried and relied upon by servicemen as industry shifted into full wartime output. We are no longer offering layaway. Be sure to check our detailed pictures for a better understanding of the firearm. -C.R.
