Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NORTH HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. / ****MODEL 336CB – CAL. 38/55 WIN.****”. The left side of the barrel at the receiver is marked “JM”. The right side of the barrel is marked with Marlin’s two-lined warning. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number “00123372”.
Barrel Length: 24” Octagonal
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a brass beaded blade with a serrated rear face that is dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight is a semi-buckhorn with a reversible V/U-notch leaf that has a white diamond aim reference and an elevator piece. The rear sight mounted to the rear tang. The rear sight is a Marbles Peep aperture sight. It is fully adjustable for elevation and windage. The top of the receiver has four drilled, tapped and filled holes and the left side has two drilled, tapped, and filled holes.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered wood with a caped forearm, checkered grip, fluted straight comb, and a black checkered Marlin buttplate. The Marlin bullseye is present in the belly. There are no significant imperfections, just a faint mark here and there. There are no chips or cracks. The grip checkering is sharp. The LOP measures 13 3/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The buttplate shows some light scuffing at the heel and the checkering is sharp. The stocks rate in about Fine-Plus overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are a few sparsely scattered light marks about the barrel and receiver. There is light operational wear on the lever and bolt. The lever shows a very faint plum hue. The markings are clear. The screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle rates in about Fine-Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The safety lever is present. There is also a push safety on the receiver that blocks the hammer from hitting the pin. The lever extends slightly past ninety degrees in the open position. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Marlin Model 336 is a lever-action rifle and carbine made by Marlin Firearms. Since its introduction in 1948, it has been offered in a number of different calibers and barrel lengths, but is commonly chambered in .30-30 Winchester or .35 Remington, using a 20- or 24-inch barrel. This is a beautiful Marlin 336CB manufactured in the 21st century, in the year 2000. It is chambered in the ever popular .38-55 Winchester, making this rifle a rare find! This rifle appears to have seen hardly any use in the field yet was very well kept, in about Fine-Excellent condition.
