Our Assessment: The Marlin Model 1936 was the successor to the Model 1893 and a direct predecessor to the famous Model 36 and eventually the Model 336, marking an important transitional period in Marlin lever-action development. Introduced in the mid-1930s, the Model 1936 combined classic features—such as the case-colored receiver, solid-top design, and side ejection—with refinements that carried forward into Marlin’s modern lever rifles. Chambered in .30-30 WCF, it provided hunters with a reliable, hard-hitting rifle that could stand toe-to-toe with Winchester’s Model 94, while offering Marlin’s signature solid-top receiver and side-ejecting action, making it more scope-friendly in later years.

This example retains about 95% of its finish, with vibrant case colors still present and a bore that remains bright and sharp, rating 9/10. The wood is solid and free of cracks, showing only light handling marks consistent with careful use. Its combination of strong finish, crisp markings, and clean mechanics makes it a fine representative of an early Marlin lever gun. For collectors, it represents an important link in Marlin’s lever-action lineage; for hunters, it remains a practical .30-30 with the durability and handling qualities that made these rifles favorites in the field. This Model 1936 is both historically significant and ready to be appreciated in any collection of classic American lever actions. Please see our photos and good luck on your bid! – L.S.
