Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two piece checkered select walnut with beavertail forend, pistol grip, adjustable comb and brown rubber Kick-Eez buttpad on an adjustable buttplate. The forend has minor play to the receiver. The stocks have some scattered light nicks, scuffs and scratches. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. The drop at the comb as currently adjusted measures approximately 1 1/4”, drop at heel is also 1 1/4”. The LOP measures 14 5/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the recoil pad, 12 3/4″ to the back of the wood. The pad has scattered wear and a loss at the heel, but is still supple. The stocks rate in Very Good-Fine overall condition as refinished and/or replaced.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: Refinished at time of engraving. Numbered parts are matching.
Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some stubborn fouling. There are grooves in the choked section of the bore, characteristic of Ljutic barrels and indicating that the bore has not been modified. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates a 9 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 95% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at most edges. There is some light handling wear in the grip areas and controls. There are some scattered minor nicks, scuffs and scratches. The action shows operational wear. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun rates in Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. Please note, this shotgun has a release-trigger, it does not fire when the trigger is pulled but when it is released. The barrel locks up to the receiver with barely perceptible play. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.
Our Assessment: Manufacturing only 340 Shotguns a year at its height in the early 1980s, the Ljutic facility made these guns with pride and precision. Known for their futuristic “Space Gun”, Ljutic holds a very special place in American gunmaking history. This Ljutic Mono-Gun TC LTX looks like it knows its way around a Trap field, showing wear consistent with being used for its intended purpose. The buttstock has been altered with an adjustable comb the gun has been engraved by the talented Bill Mains with oak leaf and gold borders. The gun retains a great bore and strong mechanics. With its 33? barrel and release-trigger, this shotgun ought to have quite a few rounds of trap left in it. It will also make an interesting addition to a collection, with only a few thousand guns made since their founding in the 1950s, Ljutic shotguns always make for a great conversation piece. Please see our photos and good luck!
